Sterling & Onyx Post Earrings is a beautiful combination. The black of the onyx sets off the Sterling as it rests against the ear. Also, the Onyx beads have an unusual shape. They begin squared off at the top then taper out at the bottom. Incidentally, Onyx is a variety of Chalcedony (pronounced kal-sehd-nee). Chalcedony is really another variety of quartz. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. This makes it desirable for jewelry. Additionally, it looks excellent when paired with either Gold or Silver. In case you didn’t know this, Onyx is the seventh anniversary gemstone.
Getting back to this particular pair of earrings, please note the Sterling Silver. These post earrings are 3/8 of an inch square. They are heavily embossed with diamond-shapes. This gives an overall funkiness to the piece. Total measurement from top to bottom is 1-1/4 inches. Sheer delight!
